War memorial at Piermont Village. An apt spot to visit as this Monday is Memorial Day. I did meet a very nice man in the park who is a retired NYPD officer. We got chatting about the UK and our move to NZ etc and he asked "Is New Zealand far from England? do you have to fly there?". Bless.
This plaque says "Last stop USA". 40,000 men passed through this tiny village every month to board ships to go to the war in europe (WWII).
Then on to Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow. This is William Rockefeller's humble tomb in Sleepy Hollow cemetery.
More time at the playgrounds. Apologies to non-family readers for whom this blog has become a bit of a celebration of Ethan but i have to tell you a very cute story from today. At the playground a little girl (probably about 14mths old)borrowed Ethan's ride on car and played with it for ages while he was on the slides and playing elsewhere. when it was time to go I said to Ethan "Let's go and get your car and take it home". we toddled off to get it and he took it while I explained to the little girl that we had to take it home. she just looked at us blankly until we began to walk away but then started crying. Ethan stopped and looked at her and looked at me and then put his car down and walked back and gave her a little cuddle and a pat on the back. So sweet!
