In House Group last night we were looking at some of the Psalms written when David, or other psalmists, were tearing their hair out at the injustice around them and against them and asking God when He was going to sort it out and destroy the wicked. In particular we looked at Psalms 10, 58 and 94. There is some really difficult language in these Psalms.

They could have been written today. Psalm 94 asks "How long will the wicked be jubilant?" Oppressors who believe that they will get away with it forever because God does not see them.

The Psalmist makes the point that God does know exactly what is going on:

"Does he who implanted the ear not hear?
Does he who formed the eye not see?
Does he who disciplines nations not punish?
Does he who teaches man lack knowledge?"

The promise is that God will rise up. Hhe will not forsake His people. The wicked will get what they deserve.

My favourite verses from this Psalm are verses 18 and 19.

"When I said 'My foot is slipping.'
your love, O LORD supported me.
When anxiety was great within me,
your consolation brought joy to my soul."

We thought that the message for us is that God wants us to seek justice and to stand up for justice - but not vengeance, for that is the LORD's.
